John’s father Jack served for six terms as Mayor of the City of New Bedford. Later, Jack spent eighteen years as the Presiding Justice of the New Bedford District Court. John’s mother Carol was an elementary school teacher committed to her students and her family. Attorney Markey learned the importance of integrity, hard work and community service through the example of his parents. After attending public and parochial elementary schools in New Bedford, Attorney Markey graduated from Bishop Stang High School in North Dartmouth. While at Stang, Attorney Markey was a member of the varsity basketball, soccer and golf teams. Attorney Markey’s determination and character were recognized when he won the Carlin Lynch Award as the Bishop Stang Student-Athlete who best represented the values of the school. After graduating from high school, Attorney Markey attended and graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. After college, Attorney Markey spent ten years as a high school history teacher and coach at Xavier High School in Middletown, Connecticut. While teaching, Attorney Markey attended night school at the University of Connecticut School Of Law. After graduating from law school magna cum laude, Attorney Markey served as a law clerk to his mentor Judge Edward F. Harrington in the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, before returning to work as a trial attorney in New Bedford. In addition to his work at Markey & Walsh, Attorney Markey has also served as City Solicitor and as an Assistant City Solicitor for the City of New Bedford and he has served as an Adjunct Instructor at the University of Massachusetts School Of Law. Attorney Markey has also served the Greater New Bedford Community as a member of: the Board of Trustees at the Nativity Prep School; the President’s Advisory Council for Bishop Stang High School; and as the Chairman of the Greater New Bedford Catholic Schools Advisory Board. He is the son of Attorney Patrick T. Walsh and Heidi Walsh. Tim graduated from New Bedford High School in 2000. While at New Bedford High School, he was a member of the Football, Basketball, Baseball and Track teams. After high school, Attorney Walsh attended and graduated from Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania. At Lafayette, Attorney Walsh played for the Lafayette Leopard Football team, where he was a tight end and a four-year letter winner. Upon graduation from Lafayette, Attorney Walsh worked in the Corporate Office of a Telecommunications Company in New Jersey. In 2006, he returned to Massachusetts and enrolled in the Southern New England School of Law in Dartmouth, Massachusetts. In 2008, Attorney Walsh was named Managing Editor of the Southern New England School of Law, Law Review. During law school, Attorney Walsh was employed as a Legal Assistant at the Law Offices of Markey & Walsh. Upon graduation, he was sworn into the Massachusetts Bar. Attorney Walsh is a member of the Bristol County Bar Association, the New Bedford Bar Association and is involved in numerous civic organizations.
